NO KINGS was GREAT — NOW WHAT??
No Kings Mass Call:
Bookmark nokings.org/next, and check it every Wednesday.
Indivisible, and hundreds of No Kings partners, held a mass call Tuesday night where they outlined the path forward. Fascism needs violence, complicity, and cash flow in order to survive. Our job will be to remain nonviolent, practice noncompliance, and disrupt that cash flow! Defeating Authoritarianism will take changing tactics and responding to the situation as it changes. No Kings will be releasing actions every Wednesday and they also outlined some items we can do NOW.
- We need to hold the Democrats together during the shut down. Please contact our Senators and Representative to praise them for holding strong in the face of incredible pressure from the GOP. Text Shutdown to 30403.
- One of the best ways to protect our rights is to USE THEM and get educated as to what all our rights actually are. Go to nokings.org/kyr for more information. Indivisible Vashon will be obtaining Know Your Rights cards that will be available for dissemination.
- Keep peacefully protesting – even at the smaller events! Protesting sends a visual message to the larger public that peaceful protest is not a scary thing, provides an entry point to draw people in who may be on the fence about whether to get involved, and is an opportunity to bring your family and friends along with you.
- We are going to need sustained, collective actions using alternative ways to put pressure on the government through mass defiance. They will be rolling these alternative ideas out on the weekly communications. What we can do NOW is to help shape the narrative to a culture of defiance.
- Share stories on every communication venue available to you that we are already living under Authoritarianism – tell your stories about how you, your family, and your friends/community are being affected. Many will not pay attention until they are affected personally so hearing stories about how other people are affected may break through.
- Place the blame on those people, businesses, and institutions that capitulate and hold them accountable. More on this coming.
- The more we amplify this message (through social media, letters to the editor, conversations, wearing a button or tee-shirt, etc.) the more that we will create social proof. More people will be able to see that lots and lots of people are taking action against Fascism.
- Check out NoKings.org/next to get started!

You only need to be able to hum.

INDIVISIBLE VASHON MERCH – NEW ITEMS HAVE BEEN ADDED!
Our amazing in-house designer Jenna has created a Zazzle shop where we can order t-shirts, tote bags, car flags, and more with designs unique to us! We currently just have the IV logo and the Bucket Brigade logo in the shop — let us know what else you’d like to see. Think: “Use Your Outside Voice”, “Hate Has No Place Here”, etc. We ordered some test shirts and they seem to run true to size, are good quality, medium-weight fabric, and the printing is high quality. Check out the shop and let us know what you think.
Order NOW for upcoming protests and just to spread the word about Indivisible Activism! Click HERE to order.
Join the Indivisible Vashon Bucket Brigade!
Dreamed of being a drummer? Want music at Indivisible events? Just want to make some fun noise?
Even if you have more enthusiasm than talent, join us for “How to become a 5-gallon bucket drummer” and practice. We have already made a splash on the Washington scene: we got a shout-out on a WA SEIU Organizing Zoom – said we were really helping make creative noise at events and that everyone should request that we come to their event!
There will be supplies available (for $5.00 donation) if you do not have a 5 gallon bucket you can spare at home! We’ll turn buckets into drums & learn some rhythms to accompany our events. Think the next protest (See above).
Drum Making and Practice: Tues., Nov 4 – 5:00 – 6:30 pm
Email: Protest.Action@IndivisibleVashon.org for location
Check out our new logo for the Bucket Brigade (thank you to Jenna for the wonderful design!)

Cannot wait and want to make a drum on your own? How to turn a 5-gallon bucket into a drum:
- Clean your favorite empty 5-gallon bucket.
- Remove handle (optional – some like to keep the handle to carry the drum, sticks and other parade-related items)
- Drill two half-inch holes: two inches below the closed end of the bucket, the second hole about 1/3 of the way around the bucket from the first. (Alternate method – one hole towards the closed end of bucket and another just under the reinforced top in a straight line from each other)
- Starting with an 8-foot length of 3/8-inch diameter nylon, hemp or cotton rope, thread one end through the open end of the bucket and through your first drilled hole. Tie a knot in the end of the rope, then pull the knot snug against the inside of the bucket.
- Thread the other end into the bucket through the second hole. Tie a knot inside the bucket, then snug it up, and sling the rope over your shoulder. Adjust the length so the top of your drum hangs somewhere between mid-thigh and your navel. Try drumming, and adjust the drum’s level as you see fit.
- Optional: Once you have a good fit, mark a spot where the rim of the drum comes closest to your belt line. Drill another half-inch hole there, and thread a piece of rope into the bucket, knot it, snug it up, and measure off a short piece that will allow you to tie the drum to your belt to keep it in place. You might also want to bump the drum away from your tummy; you can do this by gluing some foam padding to the bucket.
- Sticks: Two 16-inch lengths of 5/8-inch wooden dowel. You can use these “as is” or turn them into drum mallets as follows: Staple the rope (probably any kind of rope would work – we used 1/4 inch sisal) onto the stick about 2-3″ down from top, wind tightly up to top and come over the end of the stick, staple there to keep in place, wind back down to the start, staple. Wrap cut rubber bike innertube tightly around the rope from top to bottom (tucking a flap down to anchor the rubber at the top) and duct tape it in place around the dowel at the bottom. Makes a much better sound than a bare dowel. Optional: keep one dowel plain to have a variety of sounds.
- You can also use standard drumsticks or mallets.
